I recently got in touch with the NWRDA concerning the reopening of the
Penrith-Keswick railway. Below is there reply.

In 2007 the NWRDA provided funding towards a feasibility study to
ascertain whether the reopening of the Penrith-Keswick railway was
viable. The study concluded that the track had been breached or
severed in a number of locations, that extensive investment would be
required to bring forward the project and in addition the proposals
failed to demonstrate value for money using standard Department of
Transport cost-benefit ratios. As a result no further proposals have
been taken forward for the reinstatement of the line.
