Are Bromptons really worth the extra money?

Having bought my wife a very cheap folding bicycle
(about £100 from Halfords), I'm wondering why
someone would shell out 6 times plus that amount
for a folding bike.
I accept that it will be much better quality and
very likely much lighter, but for the average
punter, it's an awful lot more to pay.
If money were no object, I would obviously punt
for a Brom though.
Anyone got one and are they really *that* much better?
