Just a quick comment on an old thread to put the record straight. Ref: http://groups.google.com/group/uk.telecom/browse_thread/thread/dfd1f0 c4b1e5ae63 ** I waded through the Ofcom files mentioned earlier in the thread, and found a couple of oddball numbering ranges. The strangest is 01697 ** 01697 200000 - 299999 Brampton 016973 20000 - 79999 Wigton 01697 380000 - 389999 Brampton 016973 90000 - 98999 Wigton 016974 20000 - 89999 Raughton Head 01697 500000 - 599999 Brampton 01697 700000 - 719999 Brampton 01697 7200 - 7399 Brampton (* see below) 01697 740000 - 799999 Brampton 01697 900000 - 989999 Brampton ** According to the Excel files on the Ofcom site, Brampton is the only place left in the UK with 4-digit local numbers, even though it doesn't have a long STD code. ** In the list above, note that: 01697 7200 - 7399 Brampton is a typo. It should be: 016977 2000 - 3999 Brampton Four-figure local dialling DOES work within Brampton 0169 77, but not from Wigton or Raughton Head. ** Ofcom are also wrong when they refer to a mix of 4-digit and 6- digit local numbers in Brampton in other documents regarding number conservation. No. Ofcom are right. Brampton has a mix of: - six-figure numbers in various ranges using the code 01697, - five-figure numbers (40000 to 49999) using the code 0169 77, - four-figure numbers (2000 to 3999) using the code 0169 77. Older code lists describe the names as 01697 — Brampton * 0169 73 — Wigton * 0169 74 — Raughton Head * 0169 77 — Hallbankgate Some confusion is being caused by 01697 and 0169 77 both being described as Brampton with the former code having an active 200000 to 299999 range and the latter code having an active 2000 to 3999 range. ** there's still that oddball 01697 38xxxx range in Brampton smack in the middle of Wigton's 016973 range. ** 016973 20000 - 79999 Wigton 01697 380000 - 389999 Brampton 016973 90000 - 98999 Wigton Initially I thought you were saying there was an error, with numbers appearing to overlap. I see now you're just saying it's an odd allocation. Reformatting, makes that more clear... 01697 3 20000 - 3 79999 Wigton 01697 3 80000 - 3 89999 Brampton 01697 3 90000 - 3 98999 Wigton The ranges 6xxxxx and 8xxxxx are currently protected. Perhaps that's where Wigton five-figure local numbers will be moved to at the point they are 'upgraded' to six-figure local numbers? Even if the '3' is just moved from the area code to the local number, I don't see any other issues. ** Does Brampton actually have 4-digit local numbers? (If so, is it the only place in the UK that does? Is it at least the only place in the UK with 8-digit NSN's? If neither, that's a typo that should be fixed.) ** Yes, the (0169 77) 2000 to (0169 77) 3999 range is used by Brampton. They don't have eight digit NSNs. They are nine-digit NSNs. Ofcom documents list it as 4+4, but that's a simple typo for 5+4. I guess someone missed out on editing those two entries when they were supposed to have been changed from 4+4 to 5+4 when the '1' was added to the area code as a part of PhONEday. It *is* the last place in the UK with four-figure local numbers. ** You (and the locals) are parsing the code wrongly, as the code for Brampton is 01697, not 016977. ** No. It really does have four-figure local numbers and the code for those is 0169 77. They can be dialled as four-figure numbers from other Brampton numbers, but not from Wigton or Raughton Head. ** My point is that Ofcom says it can't, because it's clearly and explicitly marked as a four-digit code area (i.e., 01697). In particular, since there are a lot of Brampton numbers that are in 01697 but not in 016977, I'm inclined to believe that the correct code is 01697. That was a typo. For local numbers 2000 to 3999 the area code IS (0169 77) and not the (01697) noted in the original table. Other Brampton numbers with six figure local numbers are under the 01697 area code, and there are some five-figure local numbers too. Finally, 01697 740000 - 799999 Brampton This should be: 016977 40000 - 49999 Brampton 01697 750000 - 799999 Brampton The table fixed: 01697 200000 - 299999 Brampton 0169 73 20000 - 79999 Wigton 01697 380000 - 389999 Brampton 0169 73 90000 - 98999 Wigton 0169 74 20000 - 89999 Raughton Head 01697 500000 - 599999 Brampton 01697 700000 - 719999 Brampton 0169 77 2000 - 3999 Brampton 0169 77 40000 - 49999 Brampton 01697 750000 - 799999 Brampton 01697 900000 - 989999 Brampton In some lists, 0169 77 is listed as Hallbankgate, not as Brampton. http://groups.google.com/group/uk.telecom/browse_thread/thread/dfd1f0c4b1e5 ae63/95f0699250ff7697[ Auf dieses Posting antworten ]
