We all know about the futility of viewing with rosie specs horses who have done us a favour....old favourites...... so I am trying to be objective about Yellowstone's chances in the big Aussie race. Seems little doubt after its last two in long distance listed hcps that, as many thought, it is a case of the further the better with him. Ran well (from a crap draw) at Newbury with top weight last time when staying on 3rd, but done for late speed at the weights over that 1m 5f. He might run in the Irish Leger first, but it seems the plan to go to Oz still holds. He is in the Mel Cup with 54k ( according to my poor reckoning about 8st 8lbs ? in old money ) which is probably less than he has ever carried in his life. This should put him quite well in over a distance which should suit, in a race likely to be run at a pace, and so become a true staying test. Can he stay close enough? Will that lack of late acceleration beat him? Maybe, but at the present BF offers at around 60 ( in a very, very skimpy early market) it is a price which attracts if available later after the 120 entered have been reduced. I am not too keen on anti-post stuff since getting a very nasty surprise on a blind date when I was about 18, but I will be keeping a close eye on this list over the coming weeks. Decent EW chances?
