Between the heavy rainy days a brief window of sunshine was forecast for
today, well the morning any, and it duly arrived.
The contenders for the day had more difficulty arriving as there seemed to
be traffic queues everywhere.

With a bit of reshuffling of the groups we did eventually get all 8 people
away more or less on our allotted slots.
Chris Booth with a valiant effort from near Bradford fought the queues on
the M1 to arrive for the last tee slot at 10.16 am.
Crispin Roche, after circum-navigating Wheathampstead a couple of times,
joined Chris and I on the 4th tee.

We were playing a progressive stableford team event for 9 holes (best 1 for
3 holes, best 2 for next 3 holes, all for last 3 holes {+4 points for the 2
man team}). The team event was won by Mark Myers, Mark Kitchener (non-usg)
and Carl Lawton (Benway) with 39 points.

After we had just finished our lunch, Maggie B arrived for her 'pay and
no-play'. Thanks very much Maggie for coming all that way just to pay your
dues. I hope you are feeling better and all goes well for tomorrow at the
Forest of Arden.

After lunch we embarked on the 18 hole individual Stableford event. By this
time it had clouded over and turned cooler but remained dry all afternoon. I
think everyone was finding it quite difficult to get to grips with the pace
of the greens. The course is in excellent condition at the moment.

Peter Branch (non-usg) claimed the individual trophy with 30 points.
I was 2nd with 28 points and also claimed the Longest Drive prize on the
10th (who needs a Driver anyway).
Mark Myers claimed the Nearest the Pin prize with a pretty decent shot on
the 3rd, finding the 'member's bounce' in from the left.

The day was rounded off by a nice meal of braised steak followed by bread
and butter pudding.

Thanks to Chris and Crispin for their company in the morning and to Carl and
Mark Myers for their company in the afternoon and to Stuart Culley (non-usg)
and everyone for turning-up and supporting the event.
I hope you all got back safely.
