Gaiters on the course?

What's the opinion on this NG about the wearing of gaiters on the golf
course?

The weather here in Cornwall has been so wet, I come off the course with
trouser bottoms saturated.

I could wear plus two's of course, but as I wear golfing boots they
would look odd.  I thought that a pair of walking gaiters would be a
good solution.  But I am concerned as to appearance and the requirement
for "smart casual clothes" on the golf coursse.
