This isn't really detailed enough, but it's a start.

Not sure I fully understand your question, but my answer is that Lille is at
the west tip of a triangle. Paris - Brussels avoids Lille via east curve.
London - Brussels uses north curve and London - Paris uses south curve.
Paris - Lille - Brussels would need reversal (does anything actually do
that?).
