One of the collapsed bridges is a footbridge, built on the abutments, and
possibly piers, of the former Cleator and Workington Junction Railway
viaduct. The other main road bridge, the collapse of which sadly caused the
death of a policeman, also crosses the path of the Cockermouth & Workington
railway, now a road running along the northern bank of the Derwent.

Said railway also of course had a connection with another line in the area
which will be well known to regular uk.r readers.
