Don't blame BR for that one. The original XCity electrification project saw the slow lines reinstated through to Barnt Green and wired up, unless my memory is very faulty. As with so much of the rest of the project (Camp Hill electrification, wiring round to Tyseley, EMU depot at Tyseley), the lovely people at HM Treasury insisted on it all being cut out - and they really did go down to the level of pennies (at the time we were told by the project team that extra guards door control panels in the centre cars were removed from the class 323 spec at HM Treasury's insistence because doing so "saved" 50p per panel, GBP1 per unit!). So we ended up with a very cheap and nasty mini-project. It's surprising it's all worked as well as it has over these past 15 years... R.[ Auf dieses Posting antworten ]
