What can 'we' do? Lately there is an increasing trend
for events in cities to be hyped on the media and
attract huge crowds which cause chaos on transport

I wish I knew. The TOCs won't tell you, as either way
they ruled would annoy somebody. Complain to the TM and
he will tell you you were in the right, but 'thanks for
moving' and then when you have gone he'll tell the
other person they were in the right and 'sorry for the
inconvenience.'
