The current rules on trips to London and certainly good
for the restaurant industry, as they make it cheaper by
far for people returning to the north to wait around in
London eating a meal that to continue straight home.

The result of all this is quieter trains in the 'peak.'
You are very generous to the TOCs: the motive is mostly
to screw a profit out of expense account travellers.

I'd like to see a simpler system with an affordable
fare on most trains, and just a few premium-fare
services. I can't imagine an 11-car train from
Manchester to London every 20 minutes being filled any
other way. What's the point of a high-frequency service
if people have to book ahead?

What happens on a day when all trains are 20 minutes late?

I just wonder - why? It can't just be the interest the
company gets on the fares.
