I wouldn't have believed anyone could think that using a preposition was better than using an auxilliary verb to form a past participle, unless I'd seen it with my own eyes. But if I'd seen nine staff members accompanying a wheelchair user over a crossing, then examining the crossing, I would assume that there was more to it than met the eye.
