How come all the D-STAR nodes are repeaters and there are no simplex nodes? One of the really useful features of Echolink is the ability for individuals to easily and cheaply set up simplex link L-nodes and then connect them to the local repeater R-node, thus filling in a dead zone or extending its range. Clearly the D-STAR network is not a closed system like IRLP because people are able to connect using the DV Dongle, so why no simplex links? I guess if a D-STAR rig comes along in the future that allows access to the data stream then a modified version of the DV Tools software could be used to set up a simplex node, and I am aware of someone who's trying a similar thing using a software GMSK encoder/decoder and the 9600 baud packet port on an analogue rig with some success, but the thing that amazes me is the general lack of interest in such a feature. Most people I talk to about it don't even seem to understand what I'm on about and think that I'm interested in connecting an analogue simplex link into the D-STAR network.[ Auf dieses Posting antworten ]
