Copy of letter from A&E to GP?

A friend went to A&E with chest pains. They tested him and he was
alright.  While he was being discharged, they said they would write
their findings in a letter to his GP.

He asked to be sent a copy of the letter but they wouldn't.

What normally happens? If you visited A&E did you get copied on any
letter?
