A CREEPY man told a 12-year-old girl that she was "beautiful" and
stroked her face with his hand.

Drunk Gary McGlashan, 27, began chatting with the schoolgirl, who was
out roller skating with pals.

After she tried to get away from oddball McGlashan he followed her to
her house, Dumbarton Sheriff Court heard on Thursday.

Paul Ayre, fiscal depute, said it was around 8.30pm when McGlashan
arrived on the street.

The 12-year-old sat down on the pavement to take a rest and McGlashan
sidled up beside her and began chatting.

Mr Ayre told the court: "He was heavily under the influence of
alcohol.

"[McGlashan] was there for fifteen minutes during which time he told
her 'you are beautiful' but that she was 'not his type' and 'too
young'."

A witness, who was in her house nearby, saw a drunken McGlashan
sitting with the girl and watched in horror as he then reached to
touch her.

Mr Ayre said: "[The witness] was watching from her window and saw
[McGlashan] stroke [the 12-year-old] on the face. [The victim] was
alarmed by these actions and walked back to her house.

"[McGlashan] walked towards her gate and asked her if he could use her
toilet - she told him no and he walked off."

McGlashan was later arrested for an unrelated incident and charged in
connection with the bizarre episode with the young girl.

He pled guilty to breaching the peace by making inappropriate comments
to a child and stroking her face with his hand in Bonhill on October 5
this year.

Sheriff Derek Livingston said the offence appeared to be of a sexual
nature, but defence lawyer Tom Brown argued otherwise.

Mr Brown said: "To say 'you are not my type' and 'you're too young'
says to me there is no sexual nature there.

"There is no doubt it's inappropriate behaviour but that does not show
a substantial sexual motive."

Sheriff Livingston disagreed and placed McGlashan on the sex offenders
register until sentencing.

McGlashan, who appeared from custody and lives at 50 Third Avenue,
Alexandria, will be sentenced for the offence and three other
outstanding matters on December 10.
