I'd like to install Debian on my laptop which is a Centrino with 3945 wifi. The firmware package is in the non-free section so I'm fairly sure the installer wouldn't support it - and I don't think the installer supports WPA anyway. The easiest thing would be to use the laptop's wired ethernet connector for installation but I don't want to fiddle about with wires. I would like to try it this way: Use an Ubuntu LiveCD, repartition the HD if necessary, mount the partitions somewhere, debootstrap Debian (unstable) into them, chroot there and install the rest of the packages I need with apt-get, set up grub, and hopefully have a working system. Will this work? I'm not clear whether debootstrap sets the system up so it will work standalone or if it's only for chroots. Also, what's the difference between debootstrap and cdebootstrap? -- TH * http://www.realh.co.uk[ Auf dieses Posting antworten ]
