I currently have a few pages of photos, etc., on a website provided as
part of a 'free' dial-up ISP's offering. This has been paid for by a
small claw-back from BT to the ISP whenever I have dialled-in directly
over an analog line -- which hasn't been often as my main internet
connectivity is by ADSL via a different provider.

That account is being closed (because I haven't dialled-in often enough
to make it worth their while -- a pity but I suppose the ISP has to
make /some/ money) so I'm looking for somewhere else to host my little
site.

I could use part of the webspace provided by my broadband ISP, but that
would put my little collection of personal pages under the domain owned
by my business -- which I'd prefer to avoid. Similarly I could run the
site on one of my own servers which I'm sure would be an education (!)
but would also be more hassle and would lead to the site appearing
under the business's name.

So, I'm thinking of buying a domain name for my personal use and
getting someone else to host it. I see there are various companies
offering the service I need, but mostly offering more bells and
whistles that I need and charging more than seems sensible for the
basic service I require. Those that don't offer frills seem to offer
only quite a small amount of space -- I'm currently using less than the
25MB offered by the 'free' account, but if I'm to pay for the space I'd
like to be able to use a few hundred.. I've heard a few bad things
about some of these companies in the past, but I don't remember which.

So, can anyone recommend a company that offers a good, competently run,
no-frills web hosting service for personal use at reasonable cost -- or
for that matter warn me off the cowboys and pirates?

Thanks,
Daniel.
