Legend has it that the word "bug" got into the computer lexicon because a moth was found between the contacts of a relay in an early mainframe. This time... Customer complaining of erratic Internet performance. On site, noted that the phone was very crackly, and also that incoming calls would produce a single faint ring and then stall. Followed normal troubleshooting steps to eliminate customer-premises equipment, and found that the line rang correctly when only a standard tester was in the master socket. Disconnected all commonly-used equipment from the extension network then reconnected the extension network. Problem returned. Eventually remembered that there was a little-used phone at the other end of the house. A juvenile slug had found its way into the house, and buried its head inside the broadband port of the microfilter and died there, shorting the contacts. Replaced the microfilter: clean phone line and brisk Internet speeds. New one on me... Phil, London[ Auf dieses Posting antworten ]
