Extending my speakers - problem!

Hi all,

I've finally decided that the radio in my office has to go, and that I
want to pipe audio from the internet to the office instead. The
problem is that the computer with the internet is on the other side of
the office, and for anyone to hear it, it has to be pretty loud. So I
got some speaker wire, and ran it to a hi fi speaker I know works,
connected it to the computer with a cut off speaker jack and when I
play sound it comes out really quiet, although the volume control is
maxed out. Is there something I am missing to get it to amplify it?
