Hi all, Long post, I'm afraid. I mess around with software, so I like to make sure my machine can run whatever it is I'm playing around with. So I have stuff like the VB runtimes, dotnet and soforth installed. But dotnet seems to be getting a bit silly these days, in terms of what I have to install. Whenever I next clean install my machine, the software list for dotnet now looks like: dotNet Framework v1.1 dotNet Framework v2 dotNet Framework v3 dotNet SP1 for v1.1 dotNet SP1 for v2 dotNet SP1 for v3 dotNet v3.5 and now dotNet SP1 for v3.5 It doesn't take long to install, but surely I can skip some of these without Windows Update telling me I need to install them? What I mean is, back when only v1.1 was around, v2 was released. I immediately thought, great, I only need to install v2 as it'll be backwards compatible. But no, WU told me I was missing v1.1, so I installed that as well. Then v3 came out, same deal. WU gave me v2 and v1.1. So I ended up just downloading all the redist. files and doing a full install of the whole lot. When v3.5 was released, MS's website said that it had the service packs for v2 and v3, so I didn't bother installing those SPs. Guess what, WU did it for me... So is there some way I can avoid installing all these but without WU prompting me to add them on later? (Aside from telling WU to ignore those updates). Thanks, Dave -- (remove spamblock or reply to group)[ Auf dieses Posting antworten ]
