Merger Reserves

Hi

A merger reserve was created some years ago in a set of accounts. The
reserve was the excess of the fair value of an investment over the
nominal value of the shares acquired.

When the shares are subsequently sold what should happen to the merger
reserve? Is it always considered a distributable reserve?

Any help would be much appreciated.
