Good service award. We have 2 first gen iPhones unlocked on Orange PAYG sims. I was struggling to get them to access the Orange gprs data service. They both work fine as telephones but there is a requirement for my wife to occasionally get MeMail when away from the home wifi net. There are plenty of references to various cell providers APN's on the net including Orange, but they do vary in detail and I was trying all of them without success yesterday. In desparation I phoned Orange. In India. And got the usual reading from a script. He wanted to know what phone so they could send a text message which would automatically set up the phone. When I told the guy it was an iPhone I got the usual you can't do that response. Plus he wanted to know where I bought it. I refused to tell him. He went away to consult, came back and told me to contact Apple. I got a bit shirty and told him to stop reading from a script and just give me the generic APN settings for any phone. He said there weren't any so I told him he obviously couldn't help me and rang off. 2 minutes later he called me back, apologised and gave me the APN settings and told me how to input them into a first gen iPhone. (I knew that anyway but let him talk me through it). I wonder if they get a lot of calls like mine. If anyone's interested the APN is orangeinternet and the user and password are blank. Crucially though, after putting in these settings you have to reboot the phone to make it work, which I didn't know about and have never seen mentioned anywhere else on the net. -- to email me please go here http://www.dream-weaver.com/email.html Moving Overseas?
